While there are a bunch of different brands of computers to choose from, there are only two real operating systems the average user can choose between: Windows and Mac OS. Linux is also out there, but that is usually only chosen by people with advanced computer skills or businesses. When it comes to trying to choose a personal computer, it is important to take a really close look both at what Windows as well as Mac can offer to you and we’ll be exploring some of those things in this article.
If you want to use your computer alongside a bunch of external devices you are going to have better options with Windows. For example, if you buy an up to date computer with Windows 7, it’s likely to come equipped with a Blu-ray player, Memory Stick reader or multi-format card readers. Lots of people want to connect their PCs to their televisions and when want to do this with your Mac, you’ll need a special converter. If you have Windows 7 on your computer, though, you can connect the computer to your television pretty easily. This allows you to watch any videos that are available online on your television. In general, PCs running Windows are more compatible with external devices than Macs are, except for devices that are made by Apple of course. Most of the most popular products released by Apple aren’t actually computers at all, they are the iPods, iPads and iPhones. Of course, when you have a Mac computer it’s easy and convenient to connect these devices to it. When your computer runs a Mac OS, you’ll have access to the free iCloud service and that service makes it super easy to keep your computer synced to your iPhone, your iPod and your iPad. This means that transferring content like videos that you download to your external devices to your Mac computer is very easy to do. Of course, this is only considered a benefit if you actually like to use the mobile devices that Apple has released. Windows PCs, on the other hand, have a much tougher time keeping external devices synced with their computers.
Neither system is that much better than the other one, and don’t let anyone tell you so. Back in the past a program only worked with a Windows system or it worked only with a Mac system, so the two systems didn’t have much in common. Things have changed with both PCs and Macs, as they can use most devices now, along with whatever software it takes to run them. The new Macs, which you might have, are able to run Windows, and that is a big change. For most computer users, you will be able to do anything you need to do, with either computer, but there are still a few specialized areas, which makes one superior to the other.
You aren’t going to find a 100% accurate answer about whether Mac or Windows is the better operating system. Each OS has its die hard fans, but each OS also has definite advantages. It’s important to give careful consideration to what you need your OS to do, how much you can afford to spend, etc and then choose the OS that best matches those things.
